Principal's Message

It is such an honor to be serving the P.S. 244 community.  The staff, students, parents, and community partners have made this school a great institution of learning over the past few years.
 
During the 2025-2026 school year, it is essential that we continue the great work of collaborating as a team. It is only through teamwork that we will ultimately maintain and surpass the successes of the past.  We are stronger together and our students will benefit tremendously from our unity and respect for each other.
 
The chancellor and our District Superintendent have laid out a plan for success in Literacy.  We have adopted a new curriculum for Literacy called Wit and Wisdom. Our teachers have been trained and have piloted the curriculum in all grade levels. This curriculum, along with the expertise of our teachers, will help to develop students into being more critical thinkers about what they read. They will be exposed to more culturally relevant texts as well. 
While we will do all we can to help every student to learn every day, we are aware of the social emotional learning needs of all our students and staff.  
 
We will promote a safe, positive school environment for all.  Finally, it is essential that we have fun and take care of ourselves and each other. After all, life is a precious gift that we must cherish and enjoy. It will be a great year for all Lions.

P.S. 244 SUCCESS

During the 2024-2025 school year, we were able to become the top performing school in Math and achieve the second highest scores in Reading in District 18 on the New York State Assessments. Our students have consistently outperformed the City and District 18. We were recently named an IReady Super Stretch School in Math by Curriculum Associates because of our K-5 students’ success in Math. We achieved the highest growth in Acadience Reading in grades K-2. It is evident that our community continues to ROAR like the PS244 LIONS we are.

It's that time families!!! It is time to sign up and collect funds!!! Who is qualified for this program? If you have a child in Kindergarten, first, second, or third grade this program is for YOU!!! If you enrolled during the 2024-2025 academic school year, and are enrolled in a NYC Public School, please be sure to activate your child's account.
